Re-Usability in Testing

Helmut Neukirchen

Abstract

Re-Use is a mature concept for developing software with a better quality in a faster and cheaper way. However, for test development, which is basically just a special type of software development, re-use is not very common. In this talk, the state of the art of techniques for re-usability in software engineering is presented (components, libraries, framworks, patterns, aspect-oriented programming, refactoring). Then, it is described, which of these techniques are already available in testing, what is missing and how the remaining techniques might be applied to test development, in particular test development with TTCN-3. A focus will be on test patterns which includes also a presentation of the ETSI work item "Patterns in Test Development".
