Best Industrial Paper Award at the SANER 2017

Our group members Steffen Herbold and Jens Grabowski, together with their co-authors Harald Altinger, Friederike Schneemann (AUDI Electronic Ventures), and Franz Wotawa (TU Graz) won the award for the best industrial paper with our work on Performance Tuning for Automotive Software Fault Prediction at the 24th IEEE International Conference on Software Analysis, Evolution, and Reengineering (SANER 2017). The paper evaluated the impact of different sampling approaches on defect prediction models for automative software.
Paper accepted for the PhD Symposium of the ICST 2017

We are happy to announce that our paper Reflecting the Adoption of Software Testing Research in Open-Source Projects was accepted at the 10th International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation (ICST 2017). The paper presents a research idea to examine, if software testing research approaches are actually practiced in real open source software projects. Furthermore, the influence on the quality of the project shall be investigated.
Update 06.02.17: Fabian Trautsch received gratis registration to the conference and two workshops, plus a travel grant in the amount of $1000 USD for presenting his paper in Tokyo. The funds are available due to a generous grant from Google.

Xiaowei Wang successfully defended PhD thesis

On January, 11th 2017, our group member Xiaowei Wang successfully defended his PhD thesis. In the last years, Xiaowei worked on a new concept for reliability assessment and engineering of cloud systems. In contrast to related work, his concept is able to measure individual cloud component reliabilities and, based on this, to derive an assessment for the whole cloud system. His work showed, that his estimations are as good as measuring the reliability of the whole system at once. But his approach may also support predictions of the reliability of a cloud system after changes, which is left for future work.

Paper accepted at SANER 2017 Industry Track

We are happy to announce that our joint paper with AUDI Electronic Ventures and the TU Graz on Performance Tuning for Automotive Software Fault Prediction was accepted for publication at the SANER 2017 Industry Track. The paper analyzes the effects of different sampling strategies on the results of fault prediction for automotive software. The findings shows that the choice of sampling strategy as well as the sampling rates should be tailored to the algorithm and that no "standard" solution exists. Moreover, the sampling can even be used to tune the trade-off between recall and precision of findings.
Second winner of "Verständliche Wissenschaft"

Our group member Patrick Harms took part in the competition "Verständliche Wissenschaft" organized by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Centre for Materials and Costal Research. During this event, 8 researchers who finished their PhD in 2014 or 2015 presented their thesis topics in a way that is understandable for the broader public. Patrick became second best in the competition and we congratulate him for that. Further infos are available here.
